Literature Text
The ability to lie without liability,
Is the perfection of the silver tongue.
When gawky stares become gazes of adoration,
Is that the love of one?
When brutally short words become sweet,
and my lies become nothing but fancied myths.
When my brick walls become bread,
Then maybe that’ll be the end.
But for now, I stare out my prison,
And sing my own designated song.
Waiting for the promised happiness,
That was supposed to take me all along.
Is the perfection of the silver tongue.
When gawky stares become gazes of adoration,
Is that the love of one?
When brutally short words become sweet,
and my lies become nothing but fancied myths.
When my brick walls become bread,
Then maybe that’ll be the end.
But for now, I stare out my prison,
And sing my own designated song.
Waiting for the promised happiness,
That was supposed to take me all along.

Not That Girl
I’m not that girl,
The one you see sitting in the back,
Listening intently as the teacher rambles on.
I’m not that girl,
That is already done with homework,
Five minutes after getting the assignment.
I’m not that girl,
That flaunts her 100 on a test,
By letting the teacher compare everyone’s to hers.
I’m not that girl,
That has a perfect life,
And everything is going perfectly for her.
That’s not me.
I’m that girl,
That will smile at you to cheer you up then goes and hides,
In the bathroom so you don’t see my tears.
I’m that girl,
That tries hiding under her desk from embarrassment

how to talk to girls at parties.
two carnations hang on the wall, and you could be the reason
her leaves shiver as she slips off her skirt or her petals part
when she tells you that her father left when she was thirteen
but your roots are stuck in plaster, held fast by sticky doubt
that her pink is too perfect for your ruddy complexion, that
you’ve been picked at too many times by impatient fingers—
swallow your pride deep into your stem and tell her the way
she leans reminds you of a family picnic you went to where
all you did was sit against a tree with your sister and laugh

How to be Popular
don’t talk
just breathe
stand straight
smile brightly
don’t argue
don’t fight
don’t cry
don’t frown
do homework
go to parties
sneak out
get drunk
listen to friends
go with the flow
be silent
drink some more
don’t let them see the tears
as you cry yourself to sleep
for the most important thing
is to be popular
